Understand this lender type
Banks can provide operating accounts, payment services, term loans, revolving facilities, equipment finance, and other products. The commercial lending team evaluates the business, proposed use of funds, repayment capacity, credit history, and security. An existing account can make information sharing easier, but it does not establish borrowing eligibility.
How to assess the fit
A business with documented earnings and a clear investment plan can prepare a focused conversation with its relationship manager. Explain the project, the amount needed, the repayment source, and the timing. Bring current financial statements and describe unusual events before they become unexplained differences in the file.
Questions that deserve an answer
Compare the whole relationship. Account fees, reporting obligations, collateral registrations, personal guarantees, and restrictions on additional borrowing can matter alongside interest. Ask whether a proposal is an indication, a conditional approval, or a binding agreement with remaining funding conditions. Another bank may assess the same business differently.
